MAC Amplified Lipstick review Bric-o-La swatch

Being the lipstick addict that I am, it’s a little difficult to believe that it took me so long before I finally tried a M.A.C lipstick.

The Amplified Creme Lipstick was my top pick, as I am not so much a fan of matte lipstick formulas these days.

Product Description

What it is: The iconic ultra-creamy lipstick formula that made MAC famous.

What it does: This ultra-creamy formula features a smooth glide, bold colour payoff, full coverage and a semi-lustrous finish.

Packaging

It comes in the famous black and silver packaging. It’s nothing fancy as it’s made of plastic, but looks elegant enough to justify its price point.

Colour

I got the shade Brick-O-La, which is described as a mid-tone berry:

I don’t know why they would call this a berry shade, because it looks more nude / red bean paste to me.

Strangely enough, I also found that the swatch on my hand and the actual colour on my lips also tend to differ. It looks a little like brick red when I swatch it on my hand, but applies as a burnt pink on my lips – possibly due to the fact that my lips come in a naturally dark shade.

Nonetheless, this is definitely a lovely MLBB shade that looks great on all skin tones and colours. When I can’t decide on a lipstick colour that would go well with my eyeshadow and blush, I usually just grab this and it works beautifully.

Needless to say, the colour payoff is as outstanding as promised. The creamy colour glides easily so you really don’t have to keep swiping on multiple layers, but if you’re going for that full-lip look, feel free to glide on two to three layers.

Staying power

If there’s one thing that disappointed me quite a fair bit, it’s probably the Amplified Lipstick’s staying power.

Granted, creamy lipsticks are not known nor expected to last for hours on end, but I’m that lazy person who hates having to touch up every time she eats or drinks something.

This lipstick definitely doesn’t last through a meal, and it doesn’t fare exceptionally well either when it comes to sipping bubble tea through a straw.

The saving grace is that your lips don’t look like a mess even though the colour has run. Some lipsticks tend to leave ugly, uneven patches of colour on the lips, but M.A.C’s Amplified Creme Lipstick is more fading than cracking/smudging. So you do have the liberty of not touching up without worrying about how your lips look.

Final Verdict

Having finally tried this lipstick, I can understand why it is a signature lipstick that propelled the brand to fame.

While it’s not bad, I don’t find much about it that really blows me away. I could possibly get the same quality and colours for less with, say Cezanne’s Lasting Lip Colour N (SGD12.90) or Memebox I’m Meme Tic Toc Lipstick Satin. I haven’t even included the lip tints, which are even more affordable and last way longer.

That being said, I might have (overly) high expectations because I’ve tried and tested my fair share of lip products. This lipstick is still good to have and worth trying, just that it’s not so much the holy grail that you may think it to be.

I’ve recently got Craving in this formula, I personally prefer the Lustre finish but this is nice too.

I love Mac Amplified lipstick. I have very dry lips and this formula works wonderfully for me. I agree the lasting power is not great, but I don´t mind having to reapply as long as my lips look luscious and hydrated.

I know everyone raves about MAC’s matte lip formula, but the brand’s amplified formula is my favorite from the brand. Even though the formula isn’t long lasting, the formula is so comfy and flattering.

The shade you picked out is so stunning – both on your lips and in the hand swatch. Def agree that it is a beauty MLBB color!!
