eSpoir 19 F/W Look Book Palette Dusty Brick review

When it comes to makeup, I admit to being a sucker for fall-inspired colours.

Having experienced the disaster and true horrors of cool-toned eyeshadows, I have realised (sadly) that only warm tones work well on me. But it also means I know exactly what works, and the good thing is that K-beauty usually releases warm, brick-toned makeup around fall season.

I saw this eSpoir 19 F/W Look Book Palette Dusty Brick on Instagram and I was immediately hooked. You would be too!

Product Description

A book-shaped palette contains eyeshadows and blusher with a autumn color collection of dried and dusty brick tone.

Features a cushiony texture that evenly and smoothly blends over the eyelids and cheeks and creates long-wearing makeup.

Use according to the vertical lines of the palette to create a soft toasty brick look or a moody dusty brown look.

Packaging

I can’t deny that the packaging was what initially caught my eye, and I think it’s really one of the most creative eyeshadow packagings that I have seen in some time.

I suppose the packaging is supposed to be like a book. It even comes with a strap so that you can secure your palette and not have to worry about having your powders smash to bits if you ever do drop it. Not that I’m testing it out to see if it really happens!

Colour

As the name ‘Dusty Brick’ implies, all the colours in this palette are clearly warm, autumn-inspired shades. While some palettes tend to stick to one colour range e.g. all nudes, eSpoir’s Look Book Palette contains a good mix. This means you can experiment with different looks without spending a bomb on so many palettes.

While I’m a huge fan of the shades, let me be honest – the colour payoff of the light mattes was simply not ideal. It was made even worse by the fact that I’m not as pale as the average Korean consumer. My usual shade is 21, and many K-beauty products start from 13 – just imagine.

That swatch you see? It was made possible only by swiping 3-4 times, and it still looks nothing like those official swatches or those by Korean bloggers. I don’t know how they do it, but it just doesn’t show up nicely on me. Heck, you can barely even see the blush shade Dusty Wood even though I tried to swipe like 4 times!

Although I find the colour payoff for the light matte colours to be pretty meh, I am very impressed by the glitters and the darker mattes e.g. Brick Trouser. They are highly pigmented and very smooth to apply, so I find myself leaning towards these shades more often. I just occasionally use the lighter mattes as a ‘base’ to prime my other eyeshadows.

Staying power

If I use the light matte shades on their own, I’ll see none of it left on my eyelids at the end of the day, lol. The glitters are actually pretty long-lasting though, which took me by surprise.

Final Verdict

At almost SGD 60, I’ll admit that this palette is not the easiest purchase I’ve made. Sadly, it was also not my favourite.

I do love the shades, but not every one of them actually shows up on my skin. It’s pretty disappointing, considering that even lower-end K-beauty brands like Etude House have been upping their game and offering cheaper alternatives at much higher quality.

I don’t think I’ll buy a palette from eSpoir anytime soon unless they work on the pigmentation or drop their prices, because not even a pretty book packaging can convince me that this is truly worth the price it calls for.

It’s a bummer that this didn’t quite work out the way you hoped, but the color story is gorgeous. It reminds me of a condensed version of the Huda Beauty New Nudes Palette.

Gorgeous colour story, it’s a shame it didn’t perform!
