[REVIEW] lilybyred Luv Beam Cheek

I don’t know if I’ve mentioned before but I was pretty obsessed with K-beauty brand lilybyred for a period of time, and am still a big fan of their gorgeous shades and beautiful packaging.

After trying out the brand’s amazing lip tints, I put their blush in my shopping list for really long and only got around to buying it last year. Since then, I’ve been using it pretty frequently and now I’m ready to share my thoughts on it!

Packaging

I found the packaging of this blush quite unique in the K-beauty world, where we mostly see powder blushes in flat compacts (like the MISSHA Cotton Blush). In fact, I thought this packaging was rather similar to that of Benefit’s products, like the Dandelion Finishing Powder, except that it’s missing a tiny brush:

Aside from the similarities, I did find that this packaging with an attached mirror is pretty useful if you are travelling or need to touch up on the go. However, some users have also rightly pointed out that it’s a bit difficult to get your brush to pick up the powder in the small box, so I suggest using smaller blush brushes to do the job.

Colour

My usual blush choices are always pink and coral, so this time I wanted to try something a little different with French Marsala. This shade is a warm brick red that has been trending in K-beauty (and fortunately still is!), replacing the traditional light, juicy colours. It creates a very elegant and mature look, but also incredibly difficult to pull off.

That being said, I highly recommend this shade to those who have darker skin tones and have difficulty getting light pinks to show up on their skin. It looks especially good if you have olive or brown skin!

Colour payoff & intensity

K-beauty blushes were once commonly associated with poor colour payoff, but recent launches have started proving this notion wrong, to my delight.

I’m not sure if it’s only for this shade, but I am blown away by how incredibly pigmented this blush is. You have to be careful not to pick up too much powder or pile on too many layers on your cheeks, because you’ll end up looking like Pikachu for sure.

I find that the blush is also a little harder to blend, so my advice is really to go light if you’re not confident of being able to blend the colour out evenly.

Staying power

I haven’t found any need to touch up on my blush – the colour stays on for hours on end, so I’m pretty satisfied with this aspect.

Final Verdict

For a drugstore blush, it is slightly pricier, but I think that for the quality and flattering colours that the Luv Beam Cheek offers, it is pretty reasonable.

While French Marsala may not be for everyone, I think #02 and #05 are easier to work with, so if you’re a beginner to blush or are trying this product out for the first time, you know what to look out for.

I have a love-hate relationship with the blush’s colour intensity & blend-ability, but I think that it’s mostly due to the fact that I’m too used to dabbing a lot of colour on because other K-beauty blushes are so poorly-pigmented.

Overall, I’ll say that lilybyred’s Luv Beam Cheek is worth the try.

This is a really pretty brick red color – so unique for a blush compared to a lot of the pink or nude tones available
