After my gruelling, heart-wrenching (okay, I kid) experience with LANEIGE’s Water Sleeping Mask, and fuelled by an urgency to stock up on my depleting moisturiser, I headed to LANEIGE to see if I could find something good.

I’m still pretty bought over by their marketing (yes, I know) and I really wanted to see if there was something suitable for me.

If you have read my review of LANEIGE’s Water Sleeping Mask, you might remember Butylene Glycol. Here’s what I wrote previously about this ingredient:

A quick check online states that “in sensitive individuals, butylene glycol may be irritating to the skin, eyes, and or nasal passages, but it is the least potentially irritating of all the glycols”. Oh dear.

Oh dear indeed, because I bought this moisturizer without realizing that it contained this ingredient.

A quick check on other ingredients:

CHAMAECYPARIS OBTUSA WATER: Apparently has antioxidant activity and delayed aging effects.

LIMNANTHES ALBA (MEADOWFOAM) SEED OIL: Boasts superb anti-oxidant properties and skin softening benefits.

CETEARYL ALCOHOL: Fatty alcohols like cetearyl alcohol do not pose a risk of sensitizing skin. Woohoo!

Packaging: I’m a huge fan of LANEIGE’s packaging, but this honestly takes the cake. Blue reflective glass makes for a slightly heavier-than-usual tub, but it looks and feels so classy that I would forgive the extra weight. It’s very easy to open and close, no special contraption or anything.

My only gripe is that it’s not the most convenient (or lightest) item you’d want to carry around, especially if you’re planning to pack this for travels. They might have a travel-sized version of this, but I’m not too sure.

Texture: I’ve sung so many praises about Belif’s water-like, aqueous moisturisers because they get absorbed so easily by my oily skin. My skin absolutely hates oily and heavy moisturising creams, but it’s been a pretty tough journey to find a moisturiser that’s not too much for my skin to handle.

This LANEIGE gel cream though, is next to perfection. When I tested this out at the store, I knew this was it. The absorption by my skin was instant, and I felt this nice cooling sensation on my skin. This is absolutely wonderful for all the folks with oily/combination skin because it does not clog pores at all. Not a single bit.

Effectiveness: This moisturiser from LANEIGE promises 24 hours of hydration for your skin. While I’m not really sure how true this is (it’s tough when your skin is often more oily than dry), I do see that my skin looks much better in the morning after I apply moisturiser the night before. It definitely feels more supple and refreshed, and a lot less oily as well. I’ve had no breakouts with this – in fact, I even had someone remark to me recently that my skin looked dewy!

Final Verdict

SGD52 makes this product really pricey. It’s by far the most expensive product I have invested in, but I’m happy to say that it has been proven to be worth every cent.

Although I have had no problems using this on sensitive, acne-prone skin, I do recommend testing this out in-store first before you commit to buying it. Gel creams are usually not a major issue for most skin types, but the effects of irritants like alcohol and fragrance are hard to predict until you really try them out for yourself.

Overall, this has been a great product and I use it every night. I love the added bonus of refreshing, cool feeling on the skin – great way to wind down and prep for a relaxed sleep ahead.
